Saudi King artfully deploys smokescreen PR

Saudi king lays down the lawPR coup of the week has to go to King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia for his claim that the 7/7 bombings could have been averted. It was just the kind of row to divert attention well away from more awkward issues, including this list of things BBC journalists were barred from raising.

The only fly in the ointment of this near perfect smokescreen PR, was that more intelligent observers suggested that Britain’s special relationship with Saudi Arabia can’t be that great if the working relationship is so poor intelligence really was ignored. But you have to dig deep in the media coverage for thoughts like that.
