North West Enquirer RIP
The news that the North West Enquirer is in administration is very sad. It was a brave move, against the trends, to launch a proper, serious minded weekly newspaper for the region.
Yet the North West Enquirer, which sold around 12,000 or around 10,000 copies, really seemed to have found a niche. It was a surprisingly confident newspaper with a distinctive voice from the start and never a hint of tweaking or experimentation with content. The effect was that you felt the North West Enquirer had always been there and always would be. But in truth it takes time for a newspaper to establish itself, investors can be impatient (fancy forcing closure by changing ‘conditions on a £200,000 financing package’) and there was scant evidence of a marketing budget.
