Mesothelioma lawyers bid high for clicks

A league table of the most expensive keywords by cost per click has revealed that lawyers specialising in mesothelioma bid the most.

Mesothelioma is a relatively rare cancer and it’s most common cause is exposure to asbestos. That somebody is prepared to pay as much as £31.11 each time someone clicks their advertisement shows just how lucrative representing victims seeking compensation has become.

I’m not sure how CyberWire has compiled the table, as when I played around with the new AdWords keyword tool it reported that I could secure a top three position on search term ‘mesothelioma lawyers’ by bidding a maximum of £7.60 per click. More interestingly, (to me anyway) I could get in the top three for ‘pr consultancy’ for just eleven pence, but ‘publicist’ would cost £3.52.

Publicist is a rather dated term, rarely used in PR and marketing circles, so it seems odd that the auction for searches under it should have reached such heights. The answer lies in the fact that searches for ‘pr consultancy’ outstrip those for ‘publicist’ by some considerable margin. Those searching for publicists are a relatively rare commodity and so their value has risen. Let’s hope the high value of ‘mesothelioma lawyers’ is the result of a similarly low demand for their services.
