Media interviews: forget email

Media interviews: forget email

While it may seem so on the face of, that leading technology magazine, Wired won’t conduct interviews by email is no surprise.

It’s a lot easier on the interviewee if they have all the time to quietly craft their responses (perhaps with the help of their public relations consultant) and that often makes for poor interviews, where the subject is unlikely to reveal anything they don’t want to. And it makes a natural, free flowing conversation next to impossible. Paul Staines, one of the biggest names in political blogging would not have been so easily dismissed on BBC TV’s Newsnight if he’d stuck to email rather than appearing live.
