London media invade Manchester
On reading that Chrysalis, Emap and Guardian Media Group are fighting to bring talk radio to Manchester I immediately felt a hope that Chrysalis’ LBC-derived format will win the day; hey it’s online already (well kind of). The truth is that Manchester appears to be benefiting from an influx of London based media; we’ve had Metro for years, but Time Out’s looking exciting and Xfm’s bedding in well on the whole (although breakfast DJ Paul Tonkinson, is far more annoying than Chris Moyles).
I simply can’t imagine rooting for local boys Guardian Media Group, who already have a radio station, TV station and print media monopoly. Their proposed 60 per cent chat adult-orientated rock station sounds ever so boring.
But it would be so much nicer to be reading about Manchester media doing well elsewhere.
