Guardian Media Group monopoly loosens
One reason the Guardian Media Group (GMG) may be coming to regret the closure of City Life, Manchester’s listing magazine, is the mighty Time Out’s decision to fill the void, loosening the local monopolist’s grip on the city’s print media.
GMG has always remained keen to keep the City Life brand alive, having a City Life page in the Manchester Evening News and slapping ‘incorporating City Life’ on that paper’s Friday Go supplement. The immediate response to Time Out has been to re-launch Go as City Life, while still having a City Life page in the paper, which is a tad confusing. Of course, there’s every chance City Life could come back as a spolier in a re-run of Metro Vs Metro.
