Daily Mail reinvents the wheel with Mail eReader

Associated Newspapers has been busy wasting its developers’ time creating the Mail eReader, a bespoke application to enable the blue rinse brigade to read the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday in a format that makes the papers look much like the print edition. To be fair, others have done much the same thing; Guardian Digital Edition has been around for sometime.

But why, oh why, oh why? A computer monitor simply isn’t made of paper. It looks, feels and behaves differently and it makes much more sense to read the newspaper in a format designed for the screen. Products like the eReader are almost certain to end up producing rather cumbersome results that actually make it harder for technophobes to get to grips with reading the news online.

And with so many RSS newsreaders to choose from, there’s bound to be a way for you to display the Daily Mail in a format to suit you.
