I have had a bad experience with Wicks when buying tiles. practically everyone was scratched, chipped or mark with air bubbles. It took me 3 days of checking through every tile and returning boxes to collect replacement boxes only to find the same thing. I did manage after a lot of hard work and numerous trips to wicks to get enough good tiles to tile my wetroom. However on writing to Jeremy Bird at head office in Harrow I never received a reply. When I get his email I will try again. I would suggest that all the unhappy customers obtain his email and flood him with our problems copying in Watchdog! The staff at Wicks however were very patient and helpful.

It is strange Chrome. I saw this poster under a bridge, seriously that is where it was, guess where near my local Lidel. The shabby end of town.

I think why not advertise it on google somewhere, that would cost them zero. I think this is the challenge for Google. This is my favourite subject is that they are growing like MacDonalds in the late 1970s or early 80s. The pace is manic and they are making too many advertising mistakes.

I am quite a postive person but I find some multi-national companies make very amateur decisions sometimes. The budget of advertising went mostly into launching Wave but they chose to hype Buzz. Each launch needs (product launch) to be done with the greatest impact, passion and cost effectiveness with regards the Chrome launch.

Showing you my positivity, I suggest these are some of the most innovative, well designed products and they are not hitting the target market the way apple products hit the intended market.

We've now stopped talking to companies of a certain size, they really do take up too much time and you can tell when they have little or no budget. And one-off release do little to boost sales so you thne find that the one-off client then badmouths PR.

A would-be client even came back to us the other day, nine months after we originally saw them and said they liked what we offered but could we work for them for £150-£200 a month.

PR does give a great insight into how not to launch a business. It's remarkable how many people come to us without having factored marketing etc into their business plan, or if they have they have spent it - usually on a Blackeberry or laptop so they look the part.

I am a FreeBSD and Linux user. I fail to get excited about Chrome because after being available for a year on Windows it is still only available as a Beta on Mac and Linux. Hardly the browser for "Everyone" as advertised.

How long, I wonder, before the title becomes the Manchester Weekly News? As someone who started out in local newspapers I am saddened by their demise.

sadly, if Trinity Mirror do buy it, I think it will be a case of 'more of the same' as standards across its regionals are woefully below-par too. I think it's well proven that groups like these use the local press as little more than revenue playthings - and, when they're no longer viable, or when they've tested out new technologies, they're the ones that have to fall on their sword as all hands go to the mothership.

For - CHRIS / MARCH 26TH, 2008, 1:27 PM / # Oh dear 'CHRIS'.
Very unimpressed with your very unprofessional reply. I found your comments extremely insulting and I'm not the person they were aimed at! You must be working next to the person in the 'CUSTOMER'S ADVICE OFFICE' - who put the phone down on me when I asked to speak to a manager. I'll put it down to you being a close friend of Jeremy's or a SYCOPHANT. Speaking from my own personal, horrendous experience that is still ongoing with WICKES. I can only agree with all the comments I have read on this site. I am a very STRESSED OUT, PISSED OFF customer who wishes I had NEVER heard of Wickes leave alone purchased a kitchen from them.

STEPHEN NEWTON / MARCH 26TH, 2008, 7:12 PM / # Loved your reply - tied the idiot in knots.

I signed up as a Hero, paid £100 up front for the year and currently have a massive handover because of it. Last night was the welcome event for Heroes at the Mark Addy – free hotpot dinner and then free drinks from 6-11pm. I had a lovely couple bottles of red and definitely recapped a fair amount of the money I paid for subs :)

I go out all the time, this kind of thing is really valuable to me, just depends what you want from it I guess.

Interesting comments but I was looking at the feature writer ad they ran last week and it said this: 'We’re becoming a membership site - not a subscription site. We’re going to blow members away with extraordinary offers, great events and lots of surprises. BUT there will be free to read access on nearly all the stories for all those who care about Manchester and the region. This way we’ll build readership and gain more members.
At the same time we want to be the automatic choice for Manchester when it comes to exciting media.'

I like Mancon because it is independent. Also because I like the stuff they write on architecture, which no-one covers in the slightest on any other general media for Manchester. And while its not the finished article I admire that they allow negative comments on their site about themselves, it's sort of stupid perhaps but noble.
