How’s morale at Virgin Money?
Virgin Money staff must be feeling pretty relived at their bosses’ failure to buy Northern Rock… chances are their Norwich HQ would have borne the brunt of the redundancies to follow the merger, which must seem more than a little unfair to the loyal workforce behind a sound enterprise.
Incidents like this are bad for business as uncertainty is a huge demotivator and it’s the most able who tend to jump ship first, leaving those who can’t find work elsewhere behind.
So one might expect restoring morale to be high on management’s list of things to do. But maybe not. In the midst of it all Virgin Money’s chief executive Jayne-Anne Gadhia warned staff to smarten up or get another job. Virgin’s laid back hippy image is no longer in fashion and a new smart dress code has been imposed… I imagine there’s been a rush on interview suits in Norwich.
