Save ITV News

Save ITV NewsITV’s proposal to reduce the number of regional and local news services from the current seventeen to nine is currently with the regulator, Ofcom. The current structure breaks England and Wales into the eleven regions, available on the broadcaster’s web TV service, ITV Local. Some regions, like Yorkshire, are subdivided to create a more localised news service.

It should be hard to persuade Ofcom to agree to the mergers, given that the Communications Act requires it maintain and strengthen public service broadcasting… but it may not be.

Any reduction in news outlets is bad news for public relations professionals who will see opportunities to do good work for clients disappear.

My MP, John Leech, has already signed an Early Day Motion in support of the campaign to save ITV news; ask yours to do the same and sign the Downing Street petition, which is approaching 2000 signatures at time of writing.
