‘Vegan’ Heather Mills backfires on Viva

Public relations disaster of the week – possibly the year – has to be Heather Mills fronting vegetarian campaign group Viva’s pro-vegan campaign. Wilful misreporting or not, the headline went to Heather’s unappetising poser: ‘Why don’t we drink rats’ milk?’

The lesson for public relations professionals is that it’s important to be careful when selecting a celebrity to front a campaign. I’m not close enough to Sir Paul McCartney or Heather Mills to have a sensible opinion on their divorce, but it’s clear that Mills is a hate figure, right or wrong. And anybody associating a campaign or brand with her, does so at their peril.
