Victoria Newton’s Bizarre shredded

Vicky WatchThere’s more than a little rivalry between bloggers and those they like to call the mainstream media (MSM), but as Fox News reports, mainstream is hard to define. Check with the bloggers’ favourite encyclopaedia, Wikipedia, and you find yourself redirected to mass media, but what they really mean is professionally produced print and broadcast media.

Crucially, few doubt that it’s bloggers who depend on MSM, because in truth few of us leave our desks to get a story. We pinch stuff from others (usually MSM) and pontificate. This allows MSM a good, solid claim to superiority. But it’s still fun to see a blogger take a proper newspaper columnist apart and show that they often don’t wander far from their desks either.

And so Vicky Watch, which pulls the rug from under Victoria Newton’s Bizarre column is great, if a little bitchy as the pic shows.

At times it’s relatively forensic noting a factual error first made elsewhere to support an accusation of plagiarism. Tracking an ‘interview’ down to the subject’s MySpace blog and – biggest scoop – revealing that a readers’ poll may be a scam. That last story, which presented evidence awards were given out before readers had a chance to vote, was followed up by the Independent on Sunday who were told by the Sun: ‘We get as many people as we can to do it [pose receiving awards], on the off chance.’
