Public relations disaster of 2006
If Joe Bloggs is to be believed Paul McCartney’s divorce from Heather Mills was the worst public relations disaster of 2006. They certainly had some bad news stories, including lock outs, alleged abuse and much more. So there’s no disputing they’ve had a lot of bad press.

Stephen,
I agree.
The UN’s inertia over Darfur certainly did not add to their credibility and is a much bigger PR disaster.
And the US have failed to win hearts and minds in much of the middle east for democracy as an alternative because of their actions; when will hear about the next mistreatment of prisoners or shooting of civilians? (I am not making a judgement on the rights and wrongs of Iraq, simply saying that the US had made unnecessary PR gaffes that are as dangerous as the bullets they face).
I think it is a symptom of the dumbing down of the media as tehy compete in a very competitive environment that Macca’s divorce troubles is seen as the PR disaster of 2006.
Perhaps I am being too serious.

I’d go with ‘failing to win hearts and minds in the middle east’ as the PR disaster; that’s a job for PR after all.
