Public relations consultants get serious… call me Steve!

Manchester public relations consultants get seriousManchester’s public relations consultants are getting serious, reports the Manchester Evening News. Spin Media, the consultancy founded by Andy Spinoza in 1998, will now be known as Spinoza Kennedy Vesey Public Relations. The move coincides with Andy’s request that from now on we call him ‘Andrew’. Meanwhile, Third Butcher is evolving into 25th and all concerned are ‘excited about the challenge ahead’.

Perhaps these changes are to be expected; Spin Media’s move to something more formal was ‘first predicted in the [Manchester Evening News] Media Page in March 2002’. Public relations consultants have long sought to be recognised as professionals on a par with other business advisors, like accountants and solicitors (these guys charge much higher fees). Rebranding to sound like an accountant or solicitor is designed to help that along.

Yet I think we’re in danger of losing something. There must be plenty of clients who feel more comfortable with an informal, friendly tone. So I’m going to buck this trend. From now on, call me Steve!
