Scoopt: now selling camera phone pictures

A few weeks ago I mentioned Scoopt through whom you can sell news and celebrity photos to the press and shortly after had a near opportunity to sell a camera phone photo of my own, but I was too slow of the mark.

I wasn’t too disappointed because it turned out that the first sale (which was sometime coming) was to the Bristol Evening Post for a two-figure sum. Even if both figures came before the decimal point, it’s probably not worth risking a footballer’s wrath. (Although getting beaten up would be a story and a compensation claim.)

However, I should not be so cynical and I’m still signed up with Scoopt because I think this is an idea that will eventually fly. That Scoopt have had to wade through a lot of rubbish – the first 600 photos were of no use – is no surprise. They’ve set themselves up for many long weekend nights of fruitless sifting. And yet if you’re lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and have photo the press want to use, they’ll pay.

Scoopt have just emailed to say they’ve sold one phone photo for £2000 and another fairly ordinary one for £425. Not bad when all you need to do is point, shoot and email.
